Norris Museum and City Tour
The City of Norris was planned and built by the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1933 to 1934 to house the TVA personnel that were constructing Norris Dam. For the City's first 15 years, it was a "government town" completely owned and operated by TVA. The original town center and many of the hand split shingled housed are much the same today as when they were built in 1936. In 1948, TVA declared Norris to be "surplus property" and sold the city at public auction to private land developers for $2.1 million. Later the City was divided into parcels and sold. Visit the museum for a pictorial history of the City and Dam's construction. Then take the self-guided tour of the city to see how it has remained virtually unchanged for 70 years.
